Every Woman is Beautiful - Heide & Karlin {Utah Photographer}
I recently did another session for my Every Woman is Beautiful project. Each time I am able to do this, I am blown away by the strength and beauty of each woman. This time was no different!
For this shoot we went up to Jordan Pines up Big Cottonwood Canyon. We have hardly seen any snow down in the valley this year, but up on the mountain there was lots! We learned that I am an elf, and can walk on top of the snow with ease, lol (that's a LOTR reference for anyone wondering). I didn't even notice how deep the snow was until I turned around and saw every trying to plow through with snow almost up to their thighs! I think we should have grabbed a shot of me standing on top of the snow, and everyone else standing IN the snow, lol.
Despite the deep snow, the weather was fairly nice. I love the pine trees up there. I always have a feeling of HOME when I am in the mountains amongst the trees.
I took three women with me this time - Heide, Karlin, and Dana. This post will feature Heide and Karlin. This Mother/Daughter duo was AMAZING to work with!! I have known Heide for a few years now, and I can tell you that she is one of the strongest and most amazing women I have ever met. Brilliantly smart, driven, dedicated, selfless, strong-willed and hard working. Oh, and she is GORGEOUS!
This is what Heide says about herself:
"This is me, beautiful and strong. This is the body in which I live: large, soft, short, and mine. Over the years, I have betrayed this body with my disdain for it and it has betrayed me with a barren landscape within. Still, it is mine, beautiful and strong. This is the body that held my children close, offered the curve of comfort and gentleness. It is the body that loved my family fiercely, offering protection and hope. This is the body that endured the abuse of others, accepted love from others, and held steady through healing and grief. This body is mine and I celebrate every inch of it - all the inches that create the mountain of a woman I am."
Those may be the most beautiful and heartfelt words I have ever heard. Very open, honest, and poignantly beautiful.
Karlin is Heide's step-daughter, who recently came to live with her. She has had bit of a tough time recently. Being a teenager is HARD! It is so easy to lose yourself in everyday chaos of school, family, friends, hormones, etc. It can be hard to stay focused, and to keep a positive attitude. How does Karlin do it? She says:
"I feel strong and beautiful when I'm being myself. I think my friends and family are able to bring out the most pure version of me. I feel beautiful when I am laughing and smiling."
She certainly does have a beautiful smile!
Here are some of the amazing portraits of these two beautiful women!
